The Alabama Renaissance Faire sponsors an annual chess tournament that is open to anyone who wishes to play. In 2025, an informal tournament will be held on

Saturday, October 25th at 4 p.m.

Chess is a challenging, exciting game requiring higher-order thinking skills, and encouraging players to think deeply, to analyze and develop strategies, abilities which were highly regarded during the Renaissance.

 

Chess boards and chess partners will be available in front of the Alabama Renaissance Faire Booth (near the fountain) for open play prior to and following the tournaments.

 

The Guidelines are as Follows:

​

• During Open Play on Saturday, players may sign up to participate in the informal tournament which will begin at 4:00 p.m. that day.
   

• Players will rank themselves as beginner or list their ELO as they sign up to participate.

​

• Opponents will be randomly assigned to appropriate brackets, and play will continue until a winner is declared in each division.
